It's a New Year!

The weather this winter has been so unpredictable and so out of the norm!   One day we'll be in short sleeves and the next it's snowing!   We've enjoyed both extremes, though.  We love getting outside, doing nature study and yard work.   We also love curling up on the couch and reading good books together.

This is Memphis, our Lavender Orpington rooster.   He's beautiful and a great guy!

We have been working on getting all of the leaves from our yard onto our lasagna garden.

Ethan found this Vireo nest in our yard, hanging on a Dogwood limb.

My fall gardening attempts never produce much. I think I'll throw in the towel.

We are missing our fresh eggs.  We are down to one or two a day.  I can't wait until the girls start producing more again.

Whenever we go to our orthodontist appointments in Knoxville, we try to stop in at some of our favorite places there.   We stopped at the Knoxville Museum of Art and then did some nature study at Ijams.  We watched these salamanders for a long time.  The brown one was carrying the dead orange one all over the place.    They do eat each other sometimes, so that is probably what was going to happen.

For my birthday, I wanted to get out of the house and do some birdwatching.  We went over to Kyker Bottoms.   We didn't see much besides some Norther Harriers, but, it was nice and relaxing.
